Reading Notes #7

Some things I learned in Chapter 7….

1. In order to write a news release, you must use both the left and the right side of your brain. In other words, you have to think logically and and develop ideas that make sense and that the reader will be able to interpret without difficulty. But they also must incorporate the right side, meaning that they have to be creative in what they are presenting, not just logical. They must capture the audience’s attention and keep it.

2. In order to understand the news releases, you must be able to differentiate between what types there are. I thought it was interesting to learn that there are several different types of features that can narrow down what they are trying to provide to the audience. You would not use a case study in order to tell the audience about a backgrounder….

3. Learning about how to write a feature was also a very important part of this chapter. It will certainly help me in the future and I can look back on this chapter and refer to it when I am trying to write a feature for my future employer.
